Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

MUNTINLUPA CITY, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban commented on the migrant crisis, saying "They are overrunning us."
"They're not just banging on the door, they're breaking the door down on top of us," Orban told parliament. "Our borders are in danger, our way of life built on respect for the law, Hungary and the whole of Europe is in danger."
The Prime Minister believes that Europe left its doors open to migrants and are even sending open invitations to fleeing refugees. However, he believes Europe is still weak despite its booming economy, saying, "Europe is rich but weak, this is the worst combination. Europe needs to be stronger to defend its borders."
The new legislation passed with a two-thirds majority and gave the Hungarian army the authority to participate in border controls, restrict personal liberties and even use "coercive weapons designed to cause bodily harm, although in a non-lethal way, unless it cannot be avoided" in regards to migrants attempting to find sanctuary in their nation.
Other non-lethal firearms including rubber bullets, pyrotechnics, tear gas grenades and net guns can be used against migrants, as stated in the new legislation.
The release came one week after illegal border-crossing became a crime in Hungary. Illegal immigrants can be sentenced to up to five years in jail. Police and soldiers were also given the authority to check IDs and detain suspected illegal migrants. Migrant searches in private residences have also been legalized for police forces.
The new legislation is applicable in areas in Hungary where a "state of crisis caused by mass immigration" has been declared by the government. Six states are already on the list and are located in the counties bordering Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria.
