Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The attacks took place in France, Tunisia and Kuwait; each with different methods but the same result.
In France, the terrorists entered an American-owned industrial chemical plant near Lyon. Once there, they decapitated one person and unsuccessfully tried to blow the entire place up. French authorities are certain it was a terrorist attack.
In Tunisia, militants opened fire at a popular tourist-swarmed beach resort, looking to take out Westerners. At least 27 people have been killed. One of the attackers were killed by security forces, according to the New York Times.
In Kuwait, ISIS has taken responsibility for an explosion at a Shiite mosque. At least eight people were wounded.
"The Kuwait operation is especially dangerous, as this is ISIS' first operation in a gulf state," noted Bruce O. Riedel, a former C.I.A. officer and counterterrorism expert at the Brookings Institution in Washington said in an email to the New York Times. "The others will be deeply alarmed."
Although, there is no direct indication the attacks are related, it is highly suspicious because all three attacks happened around the same time days after the Islamic State called for such an attack for their Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
"It appears to be an effort to launch and inspire a wave of attacks across three continents, reminiscent of Al Qaeda's simultaneous multiple attacks of the past," stated Riedel.
Investigations continue in each country, as many are frozen in fear that something so horrific happened.
"The quick succession of the attacks raised the possibility that the Islamic State, which has seized control of territory in Iraq and Syria, has successfully inspired sympathizers to plan and carry out attacks in their own countries," according to the New York Times.
United States intelligence and counterterrorism officials continue to try to assess all possible connections between the three attacks. If they do find a connection, the next step would be to determine if ISIS actively played a part.
However, one specific quote from Islamic State's spokesman, Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, released earlier this week makes the fact appear to be likely.
"Muslims, embark and hasten toward jihad," he said. "O mujahedeen everywhere, rush and go to make Ramadan a month of disasters for the infidels."
