Little girl looking Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you. Help Now >

Welcome to Liberland: Small patch claims to be world's newest country

300,000 people have applied for citizenship.

Liberland, the world's newest country, is a "pocket-sized" land that already has its own flag -- decorated with an eagle and a sun -- and its own motto: "To live and let live." Located by the River Danube, the self-declared nation's founders argued that it was neither properly claimed by Croatia and Serbia, according to the Telegraph UK.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Officially claimed as the Free Republic of Liberland, the founders welcomed its one hundred first citizens this Friday, as the first liberty day of the state.

Having their independence declared April 13, Liberland is ruled by Vit Jedlicka through self-appointment. Jedlicka is reported to be a conservative and an anti-EU Czech politician who is a fan of United Kingdom Independence Party leader Nigel Farage.

"I think he's a great chap. I'm a big fan. We are excited at the possibility that Great Britain could leave the European Union. People would be much better off without the EU, with all its crazy subsidies and its thousands of regulations," said Jedlicka, as cited in the report.

They encourage the aspiring Liberlanders to bring everything they need to survive in the woods, including tents and sleeping bags, as there are no houses built in the territory. Libeland is still unrecognized, but that did not stop about 300,000 aspirants in sending in their application for honorary citizenship.

Anyone can apply for citizenship, except for those with extremist linkages -- even from the past like Communism and Nazism, as well as those with any criminal record.

Liberland will be faced with the question of its legality, however the founders are not swayed from dreaming of establishing a small, stable nation with free market economy, and government system without the "immorality."
