We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

Saharan dust storm expected to bring 'Blood Rain' to Britain

Starting Friday, as Atlantic winds blow up red dust from Sahara, the UK will be sprinkled with red dust.

Health officials issue warnings of dangerous rains to the United Kingdom this weekend. As the northerly Atlantic winds blow the red Saharan dust, reaching the country among other nearby states, the south east and eastern England will experience high levels of pollution, according to the Environment Department (Defra). The agency explained that the problem is not going to last long but people should take necessary precautions.

span style="line-height: 15.8599996566772px;">MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Due to a storm in the Saharan deserts, sands are being transported by the strong winds as fine dusts. That, mixed up with the rain as it reaches the country, will result in raindrops with reddish color, termed as the "blood rain."

This phenomena is more common in Spain and Southern France. When dried up, it is observed to leave a thin layer of dust covering houses, cars and furniture, according to the report by the Telegraph in UK.

High to very high levels of pollution are anticipated this Friday and will hopefully be cleared by Saturday morning, according to a Defra spokesperson.

Adults and children with lung and/or heart problems are advised to avoid any strenuous activity during the weekends, as well as older people.

"While most people will not be affected by short term peaks in air pollution, some individuals, particularly those with existing heart or lung conditions, may experience increased symptoms," said the head of the Air Pollution and Climate Change group at the Public Health England's Centre for Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards Dr. Sotiris Vardoulakis.

Asthmatic people are advised they may need their inhalers more frequent during the said period. Due to the pollution Saharan dusts will cause, health officials recommended people to stay inside and avoid physical activities outside.
