Parliament is recalled and the police are reinforced.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has recalled Parliament from recess and multiplied the number of police on the streets after three days of rioting rocked the British capitol and threatens to spread. While referring to the riots as, "sickening," he has still refrained from using the military to quell the riots, leaving the work in the hands of the police.

LOS ANGELES (Catholic Online) - Deploying nearly 16,000 police, Cameron told reporters, "People should be in no doubt that we will do everything necessary to restore order to Britain's streets and make them safe for the law-abiding." London, and now other cities in Britian have been rocked by violent riots and clashes with police, as people reacted to the shooting death of Mark Duggan, a 29-year-old father of four whose shooting by police had suspicious circumstances.

However, not all of the rioters are acting out on behalf of Duggan, as interviews with rioters reveal. Many are upset with the government after witnessing deep cuts to social programs as the country grapples with a large deficit incurred after bailing out its own banks in 2008 and beyond. Large increases in school tuition has students angry, while racial tensions and mistrust of the police has others incensed. Unemployment among the youth is high.

Still, other rioters are simply out for fun. "Come join the fun!" one rioter shouted to reporters in the London suburb of Hackney where stores were looted and cars burned. A young anarchist, Bryn Phillips suggested something more sinister when he told reporters, "This is the uprising of the working class, we're redistributing the wealth."

The rioting is not surprising. "There's been tension for a long time," said Matthew Yeoland, a 43 year-old teacher from Peckham. "The kids aren't happy," he continued. "They hate the police. It's like a war zone and the police aren't doing anything."

Regardless of motivation, the riots continue, and aside from looting property is being destroyed. Cars and stores have been set ablaze and nearly 600 arrests have been made, including an 11 year-old child. At least one person has been found shot dead in the riots.
The police, who have been nearly helpless in the riots so far, have been overwhelmed with the size of the crowds.

They are hoping that tonight's reinforcement will quell the violence and restore order. If it does not, then the British government has signaled its preparedness to deploy plastic bullets and other anti-rioting implements to stop the spread of violence. And of course, the military is on standby should those measures prove ineffective tonight.
