LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has congratulated Donald Trump on his presidential victory. The President has said he hopes to stop quarreling with the United States and looks forward to a new relationship with the United States.
During his victory speech, Trump said he hoped to work with other nations as partners. A partnership between the United States and the Philippines would be greatly appreciated by both countries. The days of the United States treating the people of the Philippines like a colony are at an end. A new era of respect and cooperation may be on the horizon, may it come quickly.
President Duterte said, "I would like to congratulate Mr. Donald Trump. Long live! We are both making curses. Even with trivial matters we curse. I was supposed to stop because Trump is there. I don't want to quarrel anymore, because Trump has won."
President Duterte explained why he has clashed with Obama, "they talk as if we are still the colonies."
There are parallels between President Duterte and President Elect Trump. Both men are nationalists and both are very outspoken. They are genuine personalities and they are tough fighters. Hopefully they will find common ground and work together as friends and allies. Above all, we pray both men will show respect to one another and their countries.
