LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - In a video posted to YouTube, a group of teenagers are out joyriding and keeping an eye out for the terrifying clowns said to roam the streets at night.

Around midnight, the teens caught wind of a clown sighting near an old factory.

Excited to finally see evidence of the notorious terrifying clowns, the teens drove straight over.

Sure enough, a clown was waiting near the old factory.

It appeared to be holding a wooden plank but the teens weren't convinced it was more than a prop.

In the video, one boy can be heard saying, "Oh s*** he's got a stick."

"What's he gonna do?" asks another another teen who walks closer to the clown.

Suddenly the wooden plank is raised and comes down on the boy's head.

As the teen falls to the ground, his frightened friends do the first thing they could think of - they drive into the clown with their vehicle.

The video shows the moment they hit the clown and freak out as they approach its fallen form.

The cameraman approaches the downed clown, who lies in a pool of its own blood.

One shoe appears to have been knocked off it's foot as it fell face-down, then the video cuts out.

Many have questioned the validity of the video, asking if it was a hoax or some kind of propaganda for an upcoming film or haunted house, while others wonder whether it was a genuine experience.

Either way, The Daily Telegraph reported officials in southwest Sydney issued a stern warning to would-be clown pranksters.

Campbellltown police Inspector Tara Norton stated: "There's the potential for retaliation or people could be seriously hurt or could die by trying to get away.

"You also don't know if the person has a physical condition or mental condition where this behaviour could have been disastrous effect. There is absolutely nothing funny about scaring people and using fear to do it."

Police have warned the menacing clowns have been popping up in Victoria and several copycats have been "parading in public wearing clown masks."

Matthew Lorber, the director of the child and adolescent psychiatry program at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, explained: "Dangerous fads tend to catch and social media really fuels them. The idea of scaring people with clowns and posting their reactions online is garnering so much attention that it's happening more and more.

"It is troubling because it's been a distraction for our clowns who just want to make people laugh and smile."
