LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - This is the dilemma of President Rodrigo Duterte. His country has been invaded and overrun by as many as 3 million drug dealers, pushers and enforcers. This invading army is killing the people of the Philippines. It is destroying the political system, disrupting commerce and trade, and making life hell for millions of good, law-abiding citizens.
The drug dealers have declared war on the Philippines, and President Duterte has a duty to fight back.
Today, President Duterte made a comment which has caused the international community to go crazy with anger. The President said, ""If Germany had Hitler, the Philippines would have [me] Duterte said, pointing to himself."
"Hitler massacred 3 million Jews ... there's 3 million drug addicts. There are. I'd be happy to slaughter them," he declared.
President Duterte pointed out that fighting back against these evil people would "save the next generation from perdition."
The world has responded with anger, but this is only to cover for their hypocrisy. Germany was upset that Duterte used the name "Hitler." A German foreign ministry spokesman said, "It is impossible to make any comparison."
Here are some things to remember.
First, Duterte didn't say he was Hitler, but was alluding to the fact he is a strong leader with firm determination, much like Hitler was. His aim is to send the message to the drug dealers that he will have no mercy on them. It is a warning.
Second, the Philippines is under attack from these people. The drug dealers are quick to kill. The drugs they sell kill. They destroy families, ruin marriages, and create every kind of social problem. It is the drug dealers who have declared war on the Philippines. President Duterte is merely responding.
The people of the Philippines have the right to defend their country from its enemies. That includes the use of force when the enemy himself uses deadly force first.
Finally, nations like the United States kill a lot of people. How many Philippine people died while the United States treated the nation like a colony? It is hypocrisy to criticize the Philippines for working to clean up its problems while many other countries use lethal force for the same reason.
Why can't the Philippine police protect their people too? American police officers shoot people every day. Some of them innocent! So why can't the people of the Philippine police use force to protect their own people? What gives the United States the right to treat the Philippines as a colony or to speak to President Duterte as an inferior? Nothing but hypocrisy.
Nobody likes all of the killing. The killing should stop. But the drug dealers are the ones who started the killing. President Duterte is merely trying to end the killing by killing the killers. There appears to be no other way for him to defend his people. The dealers have no respect for the law. The President has a job to do and he is doing it. He will be answerable only to the Philippine people and to God. The rest of the world needs to let the President do his job to win the war.
