LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to Daily Mail, the girl's attacker was a 19-year-old man, who left her to perish after the gruesome encounter.
Constable Yadram Singh, a spokesman for the Bisrakh police station in India, wrote in his police report that the teenager was lured to rooftop by her stalker and was raped. In an attempt to keep her quiet, she was beaten and set on fire.
Unfortunately, it was not until her parents heard her pained screams, as the flames quickly consumed her body, that her parents awoke and came to her rescue.
Ashwani Kumar, an investigating officer, explained, "Unfortunately she could not be saved despite the best efforts of the medical staff.
"We have arrested the accused, who is 19 years old, and sent him to judicial custody. An investigation is on to find out more about the motive and details of the crime.
"The accused has been charged with a number of offences including rape and murder. The body has been sent for postmortem. We are waiting for the report."Hundreds mourned her death as her attacker was apprehended with "burns on his hands."
The man's family claimed the relationship was consensual and did not comment on her burns.
India has suffered several sexual assault cases over the years, with the biggest scandal involving the fatal gang-rape of a young woman on a New Delhi bus, which led to a nationwide protest.
While lawmakers claim they will do their best to bring the atrocities of rape-related crimes under control, The National Crime Records Bureau reported 93 women are raped in India every day.
