We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

Anti-vaccination parents in Australia denied up to $15,000 in benefits

In Australia, if a parent refuses to have their child vaccinated, the parent is punished.

In Australia, starting January 2016, changes in childcare and welfare will take effect and will take toll on parents who refuse to have their children vaccinated. The No Ja, No Play campaign by The Sunday Telegraph has won the support to protect children through immunization, disqualifying anti-vaccine parents for the annual childcare rebates. Australian Prime Minister Tiny Abbott and the Social Services Minister Scott Morrison will make an announcement today regarding the changes.

span style="line-height: 15.8599996566772px;">MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - "Parents who vaccinate their children should have confidence that they can take their children to childcare without the fear that their children will be at risk of contracting a serious or potentially life-threatening illness because of the conscientious objections of others,'' said the Prime Minister in an interview with the Daily Telegraph.

Prime Minister Abbott also said that these parents will not be able to access government payments as failing to have their children vaccinated automatically will not receive the weekly $200 or the $7,500 annual childcare benefit, or even the yearly Family Tax Benefit A supplement amounting to $726.

Vaccination is one of the requirements to access childcare benefits as of now, although the immunization objectors could sign a confirmation form relating to their "personal philosophical, religious" reasons which the government has an official registration. However, this avoidance will no longer serve effective starting next year on the new rules' strict implementation.

"It is up to families whether they choose to vaccinate their children and it is government policy supported by the best possible health advice and research that they should do so.  However if families choose not to follow that approach, then that choice does not entitle those families to gain access to taxpayer-funded benefits, especially where it would involve their children being placed together with children from families who have been immunized," said Minister Morrison.
