LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - A couple strolling the beach in Australia came upon a single unwrapped moist towelette on July 2, and they reported their find to the police. That discovery is just now coming to light.
The discovery was made near Cervantes, Australia, north of Perth.
Let us pray for the families and victims of MH370, may they know peace.
The moist towelette is unopened and does not appear to be traceable to MH370, but explaining how it could have got there by any other means is a challenge, aside from being deliberately placed.
The discovery is significant because it reinforces the notion that MH370 went down in the South Indian Ocean after flying, possibly on autopilot, for hours and running out of fuel.
Until now, no known wreckage or flotsam from the plane has been found. It is also inconclusive if the moist towelette came from the doomed flight.
The flight disappeared just over a year ago on March 8, 2014, with 239 souls aboard. According to Malaysian authorities the loss of the plane appears to be the result of accident and not deliberate misdeed.
Investigators are scouring the bottom of the Indian Ocean with sophisticated equipment in an effort to locate the crash site. It is believed the plane went down somewhere in a narrow arc extending for thousands of miles. The search could take years to complete, or a discovery could come any day.
The search is focusing mostly on an area about 1,000 miles away from Perth, a search location possibly refined by the July 2 discovery.
Even if discovered, it would likely take weeks to recover the black boxes and other crucial equipment that would aid the investigation. It is also unknown if human remains could be retrieved. The possible depth of the wreck could render retrieval of anything nearly impossible.
Still, families and searchers hold out hope they will find the crash site and finally have the answers for which they painfully await.
Speculation continues to abound despite official reports and findings. Conspiracy theorists think the plane was hijacked and flown to a secret U.S. military base in the Indian Ocean. Others think terrorists could have flown the plane to a secret location for later use in a 9/11-style attack.
Most speculate that the pilot's captain, Zaharie Shah deliberately flew the plane to its doom, possibly as a form of suicide. He was thought to be depressed and suicidal because of problems in his personal life.
Others say they think the crash was purely the result of accident on board the plane, possibly a fire or something else. It is thought that the passengers and crew were killed or incapacitated just an hour into the flight and the plane may have flown its own course for hours with all aboard deceased.
