We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

China's latest aircraft is only a first step.

BEIJING, CHINA (Catholic Online) - The aircraft is known as the "Modern Ark 600" and was first delivered in December to the Civil Aviation Flight University of China. The aircraft was previously displayed in November of 2010, at the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition to generate interest in the design.

The manufacturer claims the new plane can carry 50 to 60 passengers in greater comfort than earlier versions.

China has a long history of purchasing aircraft and equipment from other countries and replicating them in their own factories. However, the development of this aircraft represents a new path, as Chinese engineers create original designs to serve domestic needs and potentially, an international market.

China is well known for its ability to mass produce virtually any industrial product at much lower cost than any other nation in the world. It is speculated that once this expertise is turned toward the aviation industry, it will revolutionize world markets.

Until recently, China has been dependent on outside firms and their technologies to build and maintain its domestic passenger fleet, but these days may be coming to an end. Already, Chinese universities are out-pacing virtually every other country in the graduation of engineers and the nature of the economy there allows them to swiftly employ these engineers on various projects.

China has already stated its ambitions to become a leader in the space industry, so it should be no surprise they also intend to become a player in the aviation industry. The Modern Ark 600, is simply a first step and the world can certainly expect more from China in the years to come.
