Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

A raid at El Chapo's Mexican hideout concluded with the shocking discovery of a .50 caliber rifle capable of shooting down a helicopter.

Authorities discovered a .50 caliber rifle among a massive weapons cache at Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán's Mexican hideout. The rifle is so powerful, it can shoot a helicopter from the sky.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Following the recapture of El Chapo, a search of his hideout revealed several weapon, including the powerful rifle.

Federal officials told Fox News a gun smuggling investigation known as "Fast and Furious" is behind Guzmán's collection of weapons.

The number of weapons originating from the United States remains unknown, as is Guzmán's method of purchasing them. Meanwhile, the investigation continues.

Of the nearly 2,000 recovered weapons, officials reported thirty-four .50 caliber rifles.

Federal law enforcement sources reported El Chapo's habit of sending his guardsmen to hilltops to keep an eye out for Mexican police helicopters. Sources explained the choppers would fly through valleys to conduct raids, and the guardsmen were armed with enough power to shoot them down.

The controversial Fast and Furious operation included federal agents allowing criminals to purchase guns so they can be tracked.

Rather than discovering where the weapons were transported, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) lost track of 1,400 of the 2,000 guns sold during the sting.

The failed operation was the second such sting that went wrong, the first being "Operation Wide Receiver" under the Bush administration.

When the Obama administration learned of operation Fast and Furious, Republicans in Congress conducted several inquiries into how the Justice Department could allow the second operation.

El Chapo's weapons cache presents the third Fast and Furious-related case as some of the weapons were discovered to have been purchased from Federal agents.

The discovery has led the National Rifle Association and New American to believe the Obama administration will use the failed project to back tighter gun control laws.
