Governor Graco Ramirez believes organized crime is to blame for Mota's death.

Graco Ramirez, who swore to fight crime, was elected Temixco, Mexico's new mayor. She was sworn into office and the next day was gunned down by who many believe were members of a drug cartel.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Many politicians who aspire to help stop corruption and organized crime are killed, kidnapped or worse in crime-riddled Mexican cities.

The Association of Local Authorities of Mexico, an organization representing Mayors in Mexico, stated nearly 100 mayors have been killed across Mexico in the last ten years, "principally at the hands of organized crime."

Two suspects were killed in a fight with police and three others have been arrested. Officials reported a 32-year-old woman, an eighteen-year-old man and a minor have been arrested in relation to Mota's murder.

Though officials did not offer further details, Attourney General Javier Perez Duron announced the suspects have been connected to other crimes.

The state of Morelos' governor, Graco Ramirez, ensured flags on state buildings flew at half-mast, then called for a three-day mourning period.

Ramirez believes organized crime was responsible for Mota's murder, which occurred in her home Saturday morning.

As an extra precaution, Ramirez ordered security measures for all mayors in the state, though no details of the extra measures have been revealed.

Last month another mayoral candidate for Temixco was kidnapped. Luckily, he was recovered the next day and the Guerreros Unidos cartel was blamed.

Crime continues to run rampant in Mexico's streets, with most efforts to remove corruption ineffective as many dirty policemen and politicians are protected by gangs.
