El Chapo is the FBI's Public Enemey No. 1

For the second time in 14 years, the most powerful drug trafficker in Mexico and FBI's Public Enemy No. 1 has escaped prison using a tunnel. After Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was confirmed to have escaped from the country's most secured prison, the largest manhunt in history was launched. However, experts believe El Chapo may never be found again. The ingenious escape was discovered to cost roughly $2.5 million, including bribes for 78 accomplices.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - El Chapo leads the ruthless, largest and most complex drug trafficking organization in the world, prompting authorities to launch the massive manhunt after he was confirmed to have escaped the Altiplano prison at about nine p.m. on Saturday.

Police guards grew suspicious after El Chapo had not yet come out from his private prison shower and then discovered the elaborate plan that that led to his disappearance. The guards saw a 10-meter deep hole with a ladder leading into a tunnel.  The tunnel was sophisticated and impressive; it was vast complete with a light system and ventilation, according to reports.

Experts speculate that Guzman did not build the tunnel himself, which proved to have marks resembling work from a professional engineer. Reports claim the tunnel was dug with the aid of a motorcycle mounted onto a rail, transporting the tools of construction and earth in and out of the ground.

Inside a grey brick building was the tunnel's end, about a mile from the start, located in the middle of pastures in central Mexico State. Officials speculate that El Chapo collected clothes left by his accomplices in the building before leaving the vicinity.

Guzman escaped the first time from a Jalisco prison in 2001, after being sentenced with 20 years in prison for charges on drug trafficking and murder. Police conspirators were convicted during that escape.
