The Calbuco volcano poses danger to residents living near.

After about half a century without any activity, the Calbuco volcano located in South Chile erupted last Thursday, a week after it signified its life with a roar. According to reports it released a large volume of smoke described as a "towering act" by Yahoo! News. Experts warn people that this eruption might be followed by another, observing Calbuco as still unstable.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - "As predicted, the third eruptive pulse at the Calbuco volcano has arrived. Red alert," tweeted the National Geology and Mines Service confirming the natural phenomenon.

Authorities were prompted to prepare an evacuation operation among people within the 20-kilometer radius around Calbuco, after noticing the dark gray smoke and ashes producing from the volcano's crater. There was only a limited pass given to residents and workers to begin the cleanup activity.

"This third eruption does not mean the eruptive situation of the Calbuco volcano is over," said Rodrigo Alvarez, the head for the National Geology and Mines Service. Although this eruption was less powerful than the two prior ones according to local officials, people are still alerted and warned to follow the restrictions to avoid casualties due to Calbuco's instability. TV reports illustrate the people preparing for the "expected" follow.

"The ash column does not rise higher than four kilometers," said Deputy Interior Minister Mahmud Aley, describing the eruption as smaller in comparison. He added that there are no other emergencies or major complications expected but they are to assist those living south of Calbuco "where [the] ash cloud was drifting."

The volcano is located near a popular tourist destination, about 1,300 kilometers south of Santiago. There have been several flights already cancelled, with the town of Bariloche near the Argentina-Chile border also declaring alert.
