"join thousands of pro-life Canadians to witness against the injustice of abortion. Abortion has been rampant in Canada since 1969 and more than 3.5 million babies have been killed in their mothers' wombs since then. It is time to stand up and say enough."
Highlights
OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) - Canada's annual March for Life will take place again this year in the nation's capital on Thursday, May 8 and, as usual, is expected to inspire and energize participants to continue the battle to restore legal protection for Canada's currently defenseless unborn.
Prominent speakers will participate in the March for Life events that begin on the evening of May 7 and end with the Youth Conference on Friday May 9. Again, youth are expected to make up a large majority of participants at all the March for Life events.
Organizers have told LifeSiteNews that available hotel rooms in Ottawa are already very limited and the Rose Dinner and Youth Conference are experiencing heavy early sales and registrations.
Campaign Life Coalition (CLC), the organizer of this premier Canadian pro-life event, is urging Canadians who are able to come to Ottawa to "join thousands of pro-life Canadians to witness against the injustice of abortion. Abortion has been rampant in Canada since 1969 and more than 3.5 million babies have been killed in their mothers' wombs since then. It is time to stand up and say enough."
CLC says that last year, more than 6,000 pro-lifers marched through the streets of Ottawa to demonstrate to the public and the politicians that Canadians have not forgotten about the victims of abortion and to demand that elected officials take notice, too.
On May 7, there will be a Mass at St. Theresa's Parish, 95 Somerset West to be celebrated by Kingston Archbishop Brendan O'Brien, followed by what is usually a moving Candlelight Vigil at the Human Rights Memorial at the corner of Lisgar and Elgin Streets.
On May 8, there will be a pro-life Mass at Notre Dame Basilica at 10:00 a.m. to be celebrated by Ottawa's new Archbishop Terrence Prendergast. That event is certain to be packed.
This is the first year Archbishop Prendergast will participate in the March for Life events. He will also be at the Rose Dinner and has promised to try to participate in the pre-March activities on the Hill and join the marchers through the streets of Ottawa.
Archbishop Prendergast has recently been prominent in Canadian news media over his public statements that he would deny communion to obstinately pro-abortion Catholic politicians.
There will also be a prayer service on Thursday at St. George's Anglican Church 152 Metcalfe St. at 10:00 a.m.
At noon on the 8th, thousands of Canadians will begin to assemble on Parliament Hill in anticipation of speeches before the March through the streets of Ottawa. The March is followed by the moving personal stories of the men and women of Silent No More, people who regret their abortions.
That evening at 6:00 p.m. is the Rose Dinner. CLC is urging those who would like to attend this always exciting event to purchase their tickets now as seating is limited and the dinner was completely sold out well in advance last year.
Speakers at the various events will include Alveda King, the niece of U.S. civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Also, Fr. Frank Pavone and Janet Morana of Priests for Life will be there. Fr. Pavone is one of the most prominent religious leaders of the pro-life movement in the world and he brings vast experience in the abortion battle from his wide travels speaking out against the slaughter of the unborn.
The Youth Conference on May 9 will feature speakers such as John-Henry Westen of LifeSiteNews.com, Alex Schadenberg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, Mary Ann Kuharski of ProLife Across America, the Sisters of Life, Fr. Frank Pavone and others. Other prominent speakers may be present but have yet to be confirmed.
