Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The men shot Fawzi and killed him.

Fawzi was a Christian man in a land of Muslims, and he had been threatened with violence several times.

In fact, Fawzi left El-Arish three months before his death but returned by himself to find work to provide for his family, who currently reside in Port Said about 138 miles away.

According to International Christian Concern, an unnamed relative of Fawzi's explained: Nabeel and his family fled to Port Said where they lived in a small apartment in a youth house.

"On April 27, Nabeel decided to leave his wife and children in Port Said to return and reopen his barbershop in Arish because he did not find any job in Port Sait to meet the physical needs of his family.

"Plus, he thought that the situation had become quiet and stable in Arish. He was opening his barbershop from time to time over the last 10 days.

"On Saturday, May 6, four masked gunmen broke into his shop and shot him in the head resulting in immediate death."

The loss of Fawzi was the first Christian death since February, when a rash of murders by masked gunmen occurred, leading to hundreds of Christian families fleeing El-Arish for their lives.

Just one day before Fawzi's murder, ISIS warned it would be escalating attacks against Christians.

The masked gunmen were not identified as jihads, and the Islamic State has not taken responsibility for the murder, but security officials told ABC News they were still investigating the situation.

Please pray for Fawzi's family and for the thousands of Christians whose lives are threatened in Africa.
