In a gruesome account of torture, a nanny for Hannabal Gaddafi's wife explained how boiling water was poured over her head, leaving her severely burned and scarred after she refused to beat a tearful child.
TRIPOLI, LIBYA (Catholic Online) - Shweyga Mullah, an Ethiopian woman hired to work as a nanny for Aline Skaf Gaddafi, Hannibal Gadaffi's wife, recounted her story to reporters on Monday. Mullah was found alone in a room at the family's seaside mansion in Tripoli. Too sick and weak to go to the hospital or see a doctor, Mullah laid on the floor in pain, her wounds oozing.
According to Mullah, the abuse occurred three months ago, when the couple's daughter would not stop crying and she refused to beat the child on Aline's Gaddafi's orders. When Aline lost her temper, she bound Mullah's hands behind her back, taped her mouth shut, led her to the bathroom, and proceeded to pour boiling water over her head.
After the incident, Aline Gaddafi led her away and refused to let her sleep for three days. Mullah said she was left outside and wasn't given any food or water, rather she was forced to watch as the household dogs ate their meals.
Mullah says she is unable to go to the hospital because she cannot pay--she hasn't been paid for her time, serving the Gaddafi family. She claims to have worked for over a year for the family.
Tales of abuse at the hands of the Gaddafi family are surfacing throughout the country.
Over the weekend, five women, former female bodyguards of Muammar Gaddafi, came forward to claim he has raped and beaten them. Other servants are telling their stories of abuse. And those who have tried to help the victims, like Mullah, have themselves been threatened with imprisonment or torture.
The latest revelations simply add to the image of Gaddafi and his family as cruel, sadistic, and evil. The charges, if substantiated, will be added to the growing list of atrocities for which the various members of the Gaddafi family is wanted.
