MOMBASA, Kenya (Catholic Online) - On Easter Sunday there is some good news for the family of the Captain of the Maesrk Ship hijacked by Somali Pirates, Richard Phillips.
He has been freed and he is unharmed.

The Captain offered himself to the aggressors in order to save his crew. What an extraordinary act of heroism on Easter weekend.

He was taken hostage, tried to escape, but was recaptured and held hostage. Now, on Easter Sunday, this hero has been finally freed in a firefight. Three of the four Somali pirates were killed.

A senior U.S. intelligence official said a Pirate who tried to negotiate for the Captian's freedom was being held in custody.

The Somali Pirates who took the Captain and crew hostage have held the entire world captive. All over America prayers were offered, hoping for a positive outcome!

The last communication of any significance was to inform a waiting public that the United States negotiators had refused to offer immunity to the Pirates who had taken the vessel by arms.It looked grim.

The US Negotiators refused to back down. By Sunday morning hopes had dimmed. But, on Easter Sunday, hope always springs eternal.

"The negotiations between the elders and American officials have broken down. The reason is American officials wanted to arrest the pirates in Puntland and elders refused the arrest of the pirates," said Abdi Aziz Aw Yusuf, the commissioner conducting the negotiations.

The crew, freed as a result of the heroism of this Captain who offered himself to free them all, landed in Mombasa, Kenya under the guard of Navy Seals.

Now, the word has come that their Captain is finally free! Thank God.
