We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

PICKING RIGHT HEADBOARD

Now that you've figured out how to choose the right mattress, it's time to graduate to the next level: choosing a headboard.

The September-October issue of Southern Accents offers tips on that and more.

A few helpful hints:

A headboard from 48 to 52 inches high is good for comfort and reading.

If a room has soaring ceilings (12 feet or higher) or a lot of other details, use a simple shape for a sense of balance.

Solid, neutral fabrics are the most versatile and the easiest to clean.

Articles on furniture, entertaining and tips on trendy accent colors also are included.

SMALLER SPACES

Not everyone can afford to live in a McMansion, and frankly, not everyone wants to.

In 25 Apartments & Lofts Under 1,000 Square Feet by James Grayson Trulove (Collins Design; $39.95; paperback), you'll find ideas for compact homes with fully equipped kitchens, spalike bathrooms, entertaining spaces and offices.

Featuring the latest architecture and design innovations in styles ranging from classic to contemporary, the book highlights the importance of creating space or the illusion of it with materials such as glass, plastic, steel and stone.

One of the keys to getting away with this, according to Trulove, is to make living spaces do double and even triple duty.

Photography, site plans and architectural drawings are included.
