The rally will take place on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, located on the National Mall, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The co-hosts of the event include SFLA, 40 Days for Life, Live Action, and the Pro-Life Partners Foundation.
Kristan Hawkins, President of SFLA, emphasized in the press release that the anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Supreme Court decision is not only a cause for celebration but also an opportunity to gather support for future endeavors. Hawkins stated, "With Roe gone, we can reaffirm the obvious: Our nation was built on the hope of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all of us, including those not yet born."
Tina Whittington, SFLA's executive vice president, explained that the rally aims to present a vision for the next steps in the pro-life movement, particularly advocating for national protection for preborn Americans under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. Whittington emphasized the ongoing fight for life at the state and federal levels, highlighting the need to address the funding of Planned Parenthood and pro-abortion bills in Congress.
Whittington noted that the 14th Amendment guarantees life, liberty, and equal protection under the law to all individuals, yet abortion denies these rights to unborn children across America. The rally intends to gather thousands of attendees, fostering a joyful and celebratory atmosphere to commemorate the full year since the reversal of Roe v. Wade.
Shawn Carney, president of 40 Days for Life, pointed out the significance of the event for Catholics, as the 2022 Dobbs decision occurred on the feast of the Sacred Heart. Carney expressed the belief that Catholics can make history by trusting in God, engaging at the grassroots level, and unapologetically sharing the Church's teachings on human dignity.
Carney also highlighted the motivation among Catholics to attend the event despite recent bigotry towards the faith. He stated that the rally represents a future resolve to end abortion in the United States now that Roe v. Wade has been overturned.
The rally will feature prominent Catholic pro-life voices as speakers, including Lila Rose, President of Live Action, Michael Knowles, a podcaster from the Daily Wire, SFLA President Kristan Hawkins, and others. Additionally, a ticketed National Celebrate Life Day gala will be held in conjunction with the rally on the evening of June 24 at the Renaissance Washington, D.C.
