LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Claudineia was out shopping for last minute items for her her baby boy, who was due any day. She unexpectedly ended up in the crossfire of a dangerous shootout.
Claudineia was shot in her hip. The stray bullet hit her baby.
After being examined in the hospital, Claudineia received an emergency c-section, and baby Arthur was born. The stray bullet struck his newborn lungs, tore off a bit of his ear and hit his spinal cord.
Nine hundred and twenty people died in 2016 during police raids or patrols in Rio, according to the state's Public Security Institute. This year's numbers are up nearly 60 percent!
"It's a miracle of God this baby hasn't died," said Dr. Jose Carlos Oliveira, Arthur's doctor, according to GodVine.
However, Baby Arthur is currently paraplegic.
"Today, he is paraplegic, but anything can happen in the life of this child," Dr. Oliveira expressed, noting that although Arthur is in serious condition now, there remains hope for the newborn.
Police have arrested three men involved in the shootout and are trying to determine whose bullet hit Claudineia and Arthur.
"I do not want to know who shot my family. I don't really care," stated Arthur's father, Klebson da Silva. "All I care about right now is the health of my wife and my son, and I'm praying that they both improve quickly and the predictions of my son's state isn't as bad as the doctor's say it is."
Arthur is alive, and Claudineia is stable. The family is placing all of their trust in God, and know that with God, anything is possible.
"I want to see the baby grown strong and walk and run alongside the family," expressed Claudineia's brother and Arthur's uncle, Leonardo dos Santos. "The relatives here are all praying together."
"I have faith that they will be alright," Klebson said.
Join us in praying for this family for the miraculous healing of baby Arthur.
