U.S. President Donald Trump offered Planned Parenthood two choices: Accept federal funds and stop providing abortions or provide abortion services and try to stay afloat without funding.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The controversial proposition affects women across the country who use the notorious clinic for information and help with prenatal care, sexually transmitted disease information and screenings, pregnancy testing, cancer screenings, birth control and abortion services.

Not all of Planned Parenthood services are approved of by the Catholic Church but, outside religious groups, many more are against the ridiculously high number of abortions provided by the clinics.

In an effort to keep the important services available, Trump proposed federal funding to help those who really need and use non-murder-related services from the organization.

On Monday, Trump stated: "As I said throughout the campaign, I am pro-life and I am deeply committed to investing in women's health and plan to significantly increase federal funding in support of non abortion services such as cancer screenings.

"There is an opportunity for organizations to continue the important work they do in support of women's health, while not providing abortion services."

In response, Cecile Richards, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America President, said: "We will always stand for women's ability to make decisions about their health and lives, without interference from politicians in Washington, D.C."

U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledges Planned Parenthood provides help - but is not willing to allow them to perform abortions.

The debate remains a hot-button topic with several Planned Parenthood advocates focusing on the non-abortion services the clinics offer.

In February 2016, Trump even admitted: "Millions and millions of women - cervical cancer, breast cancer - are helped by Planned Parenthood. [But] I would defund it because I'm pro-life, but millions of women are helped by Planned Parenthood.

In fact, according to the New York Times, White House officials went as far as suggesting an increase in federal funding may be provided if abortions in Planned Parenthood clinics came to an end.

Many believe the incentive is a good one, with Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List - which supports anti-abortion candidates - claiming Trump was doing well as the U.S. President and is living up to his campaign promise.

"We're not used to that in politics," she stated, adding she believes Planned Parenthood could be the health clinic it was always supposed to be should abortion services cease.

Of course the proposal, which is not an official bill, has been met with much opposition but the positive implications of Trump's idea are destined to create a great shift for reproductive care in the United States.
