Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - At the Los Angeles hospital, Rembert's doctors discharged her at only two centimeters dilated.
Rembert told KTLA: "The doctor told me I wasn't ready to give birth. She told me I needed to get discharged from the hospital, so I checked out."
The couple made their way home thinking everything would be alright but the moment they stepped through the door, they knew something was wrong.
Rembert began experiencing extremely painful contractions.
Frightened, the couple jumped into their vehicle to return to the hospital but they ran into heavy traffic on the 101 freeway.
Lowman called 911 while their their 2-year-old daughter, Lauren, helped her mother keep calm in the back seat.
Rembert explained: "My face was in her car seat and I was screaming, and she was rubbing my head saying, 'It's OK mommy, it's OK, mommy.'
"I don't think she knew what was going on. And he was driving and telling me we're not gonna make it, we're not gonna make it."
Lowman pulled over near the Santa Monica Blvd. exit and was forced to help his fiancée deliver their daughter.
Lowman recalled: "I seen her head at first, and then she pushed and I started to see her eyes. Then she pushed again and her whole head was out, and then I pulled her out and she was here."
Luckily, a nearby ambulance was also caught in traffic, so he raised their daughter, whom they named Leighton, in the air to get their attention.
The paramedics saw what was going on and immediately pulled over to assist.
Delia Han, one of several witnesses to the delivery, said, "Everybody love[s] the baby. Happy Birthday, baby!"
The family was taken to Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, where both mother and daughter were found to be perfectly fine.
Daily Mail reported baby Leighton weighed 7-pounds-9-ounces
Lowman, who was concerned with the frightening, exciting and shocking experience, said: "I'm really thankful that's she's healthy. I was really scared to deliver her because I didn't want to mess up."
Rembnert, who was also concerned with the well-being of her child, added: "There's a God. It could have been worse, but it came out like I delivered her in the hospital.
