Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Heidi Miller, the only surviving member of her family, was rushed to Children's Hospital, where she remained unconscious for several days.
Heidi's parents, Steve and Christina Miller, and her three sisters, 6-year-old Abigail, Kathryn, 2, and 8-months-old Elliana, were all killed in the accident.
The Miller family's relatives remained at Heidi's side until she woke.
Suzanne McCarrol, one of Heidi's relatives, reported, "She is awake and asking for her mother."
No one knows how to deliver the heartbreaking news to little Heidi, who currently remains in the hospital and is in stable condition.
There were 286 people on the Amtrak that struck the Miller's van and not a single one was injured.
A GoFundMe account was opened to help pay for the Miller family's funerals and for Heidi's medical bills.
Pastor Cary Nelson of the 1st Christian Church of Trinidad described the pain that comes with loss: "It rips a little hole in you it really does. He's very Christian, he's a gentleman, loves the Lord Jesus, loves his family, and is a very hard worker."
Investigators are not sure why the van failed to yield to the train and noted the vehicle was not stopped on the tracks.
The search for why the van attempted to cross the tracks remains ongoing.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace.
Amen.
