Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >
'The doctors were shocked': Conjoined twins share unusual bond
FREE Catholic Classes
A beautiful set of newborn triplets were delivered via C-section at the Tanjungpinang Regional Genearal Hospital in Indonesia. The girls were strong and healthy with ten little toes and ten little fingers each - but there was one little problem: Two of the girls were born sharing a skull.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The girls, Nadira Alifa Putri and Nadiba Aisyah Putri, were born conjoined twins. Though they share a skull, each child has her own brain, which gives their parents Siti Nuryaningsih and Juarnes Prana Dinata hope of separating the girls.
Siti Dinata explained: "The doctors were shocked at [the girls'] birth when they realized it was a triplet and a conjoined twin as well. I am glad that all the babies are healthy but I am really looking forward to their separation. It is really difficult for me and my wife to see them like that."
Juarnes Dinata described how the girls' different personalities conflict with each other: "Both of them have completely different personalities. They are too young to make decisions but they know what they want to do in that moment.
"So we think attempting a separation surgery is a step that needs to be taken. When one sleeps the other one wants to play so their sense of doing things is really messed up. We are really looking forward to the separation."
Though the girls were referred to the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Jakarta, doctors asked the Dinatas to hold off the separation surgery until each girl weighs more.
Despite the doctors' recommendation, Juarnes expressed his desire to separate the twins as soon as possible: "The results were not satisfactory because the doctors in the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital will not be able to perform a separation surgery until they reach the minimum weight of 10 kilograms [22 pounds].
"We are hoping that the babies will gain weight in the next 6-8 months."
The doctors prefer to wait to give conjoined twins a greater chance of survival, which, of course, relies heavily on how twins are connected and which organs they share.
Please pray for the success of the separation surgery for little Nadira Alifa Putri and Nadiba Aisyah Putri.
