LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Francesca and Lee Moore-Williams took a picture of Bella and her older brother Bobby before switching the ventilator off.

As a memento, the Moore-Williams' took prints of Bella's tiny hands and feet before inviting family to the hospital bed to say their final goodbyes.

Doctors had diagnosed the girl with a mitochondrial disease but were unsure what it was exactly. All they knew was that her cells were unable to produce enough energy to support the child.

She was placed on a ventilator at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and doctors told the family on three occasions that it was unlikely Bella would survive.

When the family decided to take her off the ventilator, they believed it would be the last time they saw their daughter on Earth, but God produced a miracle.

Francesca Moore-Williams said, "We had the whole family at our sides. On July 21 we were told to say our goodbyes and the whole family came in one by one to say their goodbyes.

"I just kept sitting there thinking 'why us'. [sic] It was heart wrenching because you see family members that you've never seen cry before. I will never, ever forget that moment when I had to say goodbye to my daughter.

"I was holding her hand knowing there was going to be a little last breath. I could feel her hand dropping and it went down but then she started gripping my finger.

"She started moving on her own and then her machine started going off. The doctors then changed everything to try to keep her alive."

Despite the ventilator being shut off, baby Bella began to breathe. Then, miraculously, she began to kick and scream.

Though the family signed a form disallowing special measures to keep Bella alive, doctors stepped in to revive her.

Lee Moore-Williams said, "The doctors changed their way of thinking and they went all the way to save her. In those 20 minutes, I realised she wasn't ready to let go."

Bella's oxygen levels returned to 100 percent and later that day doctors told the Moore-Williams' Bella would survive.

She was transferred to the children's ward following her revival, where she spent three weeks receiving treatment. When she was sent home, she spent six weeks being carefully weaned off the drugs.

Today, Bella receives medical treatment but has  returned home in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, where her second birthday will be celebrated next month.

Francesca reported, "She's now learning to talk and her hair is growing back and she's even walking. She's about eight months behind where she should be but doctors are confident she will pick up quite quickly.

"We are so excited to be together this Christmas and to sit and watch them open their presents. Bella loves Father Christmas so we can't wait to have the Christmas we thought we'd never have six months ago.

"...It's just amazing. It's like we have won the lottery," Francesca beamed. "She made our family complete and now it's great to see how well she is doing. When she says 'Mama' it melts my heart."
