Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

'Thankful this morning for life, family and this bundle of joy. She received her hearing aids for the first time yesterday and the joy on her face!'

Christmas came early for the Cloyd family when five-month-old Corlena was given hearing aids that allowed her to hear for the first time.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Initially, Corlena was born full term and healthy, but when a hearing test was conducted at the hospital it was discovered she suffered extreme hearing loss. In hopes that the tests were wrong, Cori and Kalonda Cloyd waited two months before returning for further testing.

Unfortunately, the tests revealed severe impairment and was confirmed by a specialist. Shortly after the diagnosis, the Cloyd family was helped by The Moog Center for the Deaf and Missouri First Steps.

The Center's "about" section explains how it approaches and teaches deaf children to speak and that 84 percent of their alumni, "who are eligible, have elected to go to college."

With help from the Center, Corlena was able to receive her first hearing aids on December 7.
A video of Corlena receiving the aids and reacting to sound warms the heart as the child breaks into a grin and laughs.

When her grandmother makes popping sounds with her mouth, Corlena is shown turning toward the woman and staring in shock for a moment before crying out in joy. When her grandmother starts clapping, Corlena is shown staring in amazement.

Her mother, who is obviously touched by the interaction, asks, "You like clapping?" The emotion-fueled video was shared on Facebook, where it has received nearly 1,300 views and hundreds of "likes."

"Thankful this morning for life," Cloyd wrote, "family and this bundle of joy. She received her hearing aids for the first time yesterday and the joy on her face!"

Initially Corlena's mother believed the girl's voice would be quiet, but little Corlena has been taking full advantage of listening to herself "talk."

"And we thought receiving her hearing aids she will be a little bit quieter," Cloyd wrote in a Facebook post. "She said y'all thought wrong."
