Little girl looking Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you. Help Now >

Holli Gorveatt's boys suffered 'twin-twin transfusion syndrome'

Holli and Nick Gorveatt were happily pregnant until Holli, at 23-weeks, was forced to deliver her son Link. Following Link's extremely premature arrival, Holli was forced to remain pregnant with Link's identical twin, Logan, for eighteen more days.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Link was born on September 29 weighing only 1 pound, two ounces. On October 17, Logan was born prematurely via C-section and weighed 1 pound, ten ounces.

Before their births, Dr. Martin Walker performed an in-utero surgery to fix "twin-twin transfusion syndrome" (TTTS), which means the twins shared a placenta. An abnormal blood vessel connection was formed in the placenta that distributed an uneven amount of blood to each child.

While one boy received too much blood, which could lead to heart failure, the other was becoming anemic and weak. Dr. Walker was able to separate the blood vessels and each boy was able to receive the correct amount of blood. When Holli went into labor one week after the procedure, it was Dr. Walker who delivered Link.

Gorveatt said, "The doctor said, '[Logan] will be bigger [than Link]. Growth in utero is so much better than growth in the [hospital unit].'"

Following the birth of her son Link, Gorveatt told ABC7, "It's very surreal -to be post-partum and partum."

The Gorveatt's GoFundMe says, "Logan was born on Saturday morning. It started when I was in the NICU on Friday at 6:30 pm in which I felt off. I called my nurse who called my docter and said to lay down. Was wheeled back to my room and from there things got worse."

An explanation of an ultrasound and fears of infection was transcribed, with Holli saying, "It was the right call. When Logan was born, he had the cutest tiny cry."

Dr. Walker told ABC News, "He's got a long way to go, but the fact that he's this far out with no bleeding in his brain, it suggests he's going to be one of the 10 percent with normal development."

On Monday, the Gorveatts updated their GoFundMe page to reveal Link "is sleeping and growing and staying stable." Several donors on the page left comments for the family and opened up about their personal TTTS stories. As of Tuesday, October 20 at 3 p.m. the family's GoFundMe page has reached $5,595 of its $7,500 goal.
