MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Dorina Rosin, a spiritual healer, wanted introduce her baby to the world by giving birth at the sea with dolphin as midwives. Although the couple believes it is a natural and relaxing way to deliver their baby, doctors and other experts warn of the dangers such a birth can pose.
Marinelife experts and medical professionals explain that the risk of danger with the dolphin-assisted birth is very high.
Science journalist Christie Wilcox wrote in Discover, "This has to be, hands down, one of the worst natural birthing ideas anyone has ever had." She later cites several cases in which dolphins "toss, beat, and kill small porpoises or baby sharks for no apparent reason other than they enjoy it, though some have suggested the poor porpoises serve as practice for killing the infants of rival males."
Dolphins can be unpredictable and dangerous. "Is this an animal you want to have at your side when you're completely vulnerable?" Wilcox asks.
Even with the probability of a Great White Shark appearing in place of dolphins, Rosin and her partner, Maika Suneagle, chose to continue with their plan.
"In 2011 and 2014 I had the privilege to learn from and with wild and free dolphins and Humpback whales in Hawaii who transformed and healed me in a very profound way. I felt deeply called to spend two times three months in nature - mostly by myself - and to deeply connect to this magical place of beauty and transformation inside and outside which called me home," shared Dorina through her blog.
She deeply believes that the mammals have strong healing properties and plans to have a water birth with the dolphins around her at sea. Rosin and Suneagle claim their child will be able to speak dolphin.
Despite warnings, Piper reports the spiritual couple remains calm and convinced there is no better way to give birth.
