Inspiring newlywed couple from Turkey serves food to thousands of Syrian refugees during wedding reception

Fethullah Uzumcuoglu and Esra Polat got the idea from the father of the groom.

Dressed in their finest clothes from their wedding, a Turkish bride and groom served food for 4,000 Syrian refugees instead of having the usual reception dinner. According to the couple, the idea, which initially shocked the bride, came from the groom's father. Believing their act could inspire people to do good things for others, the newlyweds went with the idea that garnered praise and blessings for the family.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Fethullah Uzumcuoglu and Esra Polat got married near the Turkey border, where thousands of Syrians brave to take refuge from their country at war.

Instead of the commonly held wedding banquet after the ceremony, the newlyweds used the money they were given to provide food for thousands of the refugees. Photos of the event circulated around the Internet over the various social media networks, earning praises and well-wishes for Fethullah and Esra.


According to the Telegraph UK, the couple admitted the idea came from the groom's father, Ali Uzumcuoglu, who wanted to inspire and spread joy through marriage. With the response of those who have seen the photos, the message may be getting through. Even their guests were recruited to help and serve dinner. "For us, it was an interesting wedding dinner," said Ali.

"I was shocked when Fethullah first told me about the idea but afterwards I was won over by it. It was such a wonderful experience. I'm happy that we had the opportunity to share our wedding meal with the people who are in real need," admitted Esra, according to the Telegraph. Her groom Fethullah explained that seeing the Syrian children refugees full of happiness was priceless. "We started our journey to happiness with making others happy and that's a great feeling."
