Millennials stuck at home: Why are so many young people choosing to live with their parents?
FREE Catholic Classes
One in three young adults still live with their parents, even after the increase in salaries and wages, compared to the past years. The causes of these arrangements are still undefined, but some are suggesting that the rising cost of housing may be one of the biggest driving forces.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Even after the current economic recovery the United States is having after the recession in 2007, more and more young adults are choosing not to leave their parents houses, insisting that having more money is not the primary driving force for them.
Data, excluding those enrolled in school full-time, used was from the U.S. Census Bureau, which indicated that the number of the people within the 18-34 age bracket, the "Millennials," increasing by three million since the recession, 20.4 million of them were found still living with their parents and relatives, with only less than half a million choosing to live independently.
Although the unemployment rate among their cohort also dropped from 12.4 in 2010, when the U.S. economy was at its lowest, to 7.7 percent, the rate of them living on their own also dropped from 69 percent to 67 while the average weekly earnings rose from $547 to $574, according to The Daily Mail.
The findings, published by the Pew Research Center, explained that living independently became less of a choice to both those with degrees and without, despite the fact that there are more well-educated young people living outside of their parents' nest. While an expert pointed out that the rising housing costs may hinder the young to live independently, about 84 percent of them admitted that their parents still do their laundry.
