Journalist posts two identical dating profiles of herself - one is her as a larger size.

A 33-year-old journalist from London often asked herself how much a women's body size really matters to men. Although Yvette Caster claimed she wasn't the type to subscribe to the belief of thinness begetting more chances in finding a partner as propagated by media, she decided to determine whether this idea applied to real life situations. On the dating site OKCupid, Caster decided to conduct a social experiment.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - "I've never bought into the lie, popular with some elements of media, that everything will be better when you're thin. But, as a single woman trying everything I can to increase my chances of finding The One, I was interested to see how much of an issue size is for single men," Caster wrote on her essay, cited in Elite Daily.

She decided to put up two identical profiles in the site while having two somewhat different pictures. One shows her in a UK size 10 and the other one was her in a UK size 18. After five days, she found out that more men had visited her "slimmer" profile as opposed to her "larger" one.

With her UK size 10 picture, she received twice as much attention: 36 messages, 211 likes, and 210 visits. On the other hand, the profile with her UK size 18 photo had received 18 messages, 74 likes and 81 visits. In the experiment, men paid more attention to "skinnier" women, though other attributes are the same.

"It can't be denied that, if the guys of OKCupid are anything to go by, single men prefer thinner women twice as much. Or at least thinner me," concluded Caster. However, she reminds everyone to have confidence and to please themselves, rather than relying on other people's attention and approval.
