Three eighth-grade boys stood up for their cheerleader with Down syndrome in the middle of their basketball game

Fed up by the words said by bullies on the stand, players Miles Rodriguez, Scooter Terrien and Chase Vasquez, of the Lincoln Middle School basketball team went off the court after a time out was called. Overhearing some kids bullying their cheerleader with Down syndrome, Desiree Andrews, these young men from Kenosha, Wisconsin immediately stood up for her, telling them to stop. The criticisms were in particular to Andrews' 'dancing to her own beat' performance.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - According to the report of Kenosha News, the eighth-grade boys could not go on with the game as they witnessed the harassment happening.

Brandon Morris, the boys' coach for last year, said that one player immediately stood up saying "Don't mess with her," which prompted his teammates to go together in confronting the bullies.

As told in the WTMJ-TV interview, these players said that they did that because they were 'mad,' believing that no one should be treated like that.

"It's not fair when other people get treated wrong because we're all the same. We're all created the same. God made us the same way," said Terrien.

This incident led to the development of a beautiful friendship between cheerleader, Desiree Andrews and her school's basketball players. Now, she always walks to class with her three new friends by her side, making sure she is fine. Andrew's dad also states that he tried to talk to his daughter's 'God sent' supporters personally, but could not stop his tears.

Rodriguez said that after what they did, "Everyone loves her [Desiree] now."

Andrews described what her new friends did for her as 'sweet, awesome, kind and amazing' during an interview with TMJ4. Meanwhile, the Lincoln Middle School gymnasium was renamed 'D's House" in her honor, which was proposed to become official by their PE teacher team.
