Arkansas Passes Nation's Most Protective and Restrictive Abortion Laws
FREE Catholic Classes
Arkansas now has the nation's most protective abortion laws, with protection assured for women and children who reach their 12th week of pregnancy. The state's Republican legislature managed to override a veto from Gov. Mark Beebe, an Anti-Life Democrat. Groups such as the ACLU have pledged to file suit in federal court.

LITTLE ROCK, AR (Catholic Online) - Pro-Life Arkansas State politicians were successful in strengthening laws to protect women and unborn children after taking control of both the house and senate in last year's election. They immediately went to work crafting two laws which seek to curtail the deadly practice.
The first law, which takes effect immediately, bans most abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy. A second law, which was also saved from the governor's veto, moves the date up to 12 weeks. Under both laws, women may still subject themselves to the inherently traumatic procedure in cases of rape, incest, and if the life of the mother is in jeopardy. A court may also authorize an abortion.
Advocates for life and children hail the measure as a protective step that will spare countless children from death, and, in addition, save women from the abuse and trauma that abortion brings.
Anti-life activists remain say they plan to sue to block the law in federal court. Arguing that children's lives should be subjected to the choice of a mother who in some cases may be facing distress or abuse, they are hopeful they can roll back the progress made by the state's Pro-Life legislature.
Pro-Life Republicans, and some Pro-Life Democrats, across the country have been strong advocates for the rights of children, endeavoring to pass laws that will protect them in the womb as effectively as outside. Still, the battle looms large as anti-life forces claim that women have some kind of right to kill the unborn.
Opponents of the fundamental Human Right to Life sometimes present themselves in the disguise of feminism. However, abortion also kills includes female children. Certainly a woman who subjects a female child to death by an intentional procured abortion cannot be considered a feminist.
They further insist that the intentional taking of human life through procured abortion is some kind of "reproductive" health issue. There is nothing reproductive about abortion and the health of the mother is not advanced. The life of the child is taken.
The state of Arkansas is preparing to respond to the inevitable legal onslaught. For the sake of the unborn and their mothers, it is hoped that this time, the will of the mainstream citizenry will stand.
