We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

LOS ANGELES (Catholic Online) - Chaturbhuj-sthan is close to the Nepalese border. For centuries, it has been a center for sex trade with human trafficking, forced prostitution, and the myriad of other evils associated with the industry. The town is home to about 10,000 women and children virtually all employed one way or another in the town's sordid industry. But from that town, a ray of hope has merged in the form of one woman, named Nessema who is featured in Singh's film.
According to Singh's, Neesema was born into the town destined for a brutal life of forced prostitution, but that a women she calls her, "grandmother" (they are not materially related) decided to pay and send Neesema away to have her educated. After receiving her education, Neesema returned to Chaturbhuj-sthan and began to educate the other girls and women in the town. As education spread, the women began to enjoy other opportunities for work and survival besides prostitution. Neesema was able to get help from banks and other locals to establish facilities to educate children and thanks to her, every child in the town now receives an education.
Not everybody is pleased with Neesema's efforts. Pimps and other locals including a very powerful woman, Rani Begum, whose fortune is dependent on the sex trade, have threatened Neesema. Begum, who lives in an expansive mansion, has sent henchmen to harass Neesema and others who they see as disruptive and dangerous to the traditional way of life in Chaturbhuj-sthan.
Neesema however, has remained undeterred. At least 20 young girls have been returned home after being imported as sex workers and the story of the town and the plight of its women is becoming public though her efforts to produce a monthly magazine and Singh's film. More than 50 former prostitutes now work with Naseema in various industries and they have prevented traffickings and allowed women to escape slavery altogether.
So far, the town remains and conducts its business as it has for centuries, but with the coming release of Singh's "Daughters of the Brothel" and the attention it is getting from Neesema's efforts, that may come to an end sooner than later.
