LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Catholic Online School is producing the remainder of its Grade 1 Catechism course. The courses are being written now. New lessons will be added to the course over the next several weeks and into spring. The course will have more than 100 lessons that will teach young learners all about their Catholic faith.
Each lesson comes with a lesson plan, a study guide, and a quiz to assess learning. The centerpiece of each lesson is a short video which teaches one or two key concepts of the faith.
Teachers may use the content as the centerpiece of their catechism curriculum, or as a supplement to an existing curriculum.
Older students, and even adults and RCIA catechumens may benefit from these courses because they provide, short, concise, easy to understand lessons.
Once First Grade Catechism is complete, additional grade levels will be finished. Grade Two will be next, then Grade Three, and so on. In all the school will feature complete catechism courses for grades 1-8.
There are already several lessons for all levels through the 8th grade, but the final catechism courses will have more than a hundred lessons for each grade level. The exact number of lessons will vary.
In addition to grade school catechism, Catholic Online School has plenty to offer. Adults will benefit from courses on the Rosary, Purgatory, Stations of the Cross, prayers and the saints, and much more. There are also several history courses to check out.
The school is free. There is never a cost to enroll or take courses. There is no tuition or books to buy. The school is supported entirely by donations. These donations are critical as producing each course is a time and labor-intensive process which requires the work of several people.
Courses are written by qualified instructors, such as expert laity, teachers, and clergy. All courses are submitted for magesterial review. The ideas, language, and word choice in each lesson is vetted. After magesterial review, the lesson is again reviewed for grammar and clarity and for suitability for video production. Sentences need to be short and easy to read, and lessons need to be bite-sized.
Next comes video production where an entire team of editors produces each video, frame-by-frame. Special care is taken with animation, lighting and sound, depending on how each video is produced. Some are filmed live, others are animated. Some videos are created using recorded footage.
After production, the video content is reviewed several times to ensure it meets our standards.
Once the video is produced, the course in the school is built. Finally, the video and all elements of the lessons are uploaded to the school and published.
It takes many hours to produce even a single, three-minute video and its course. However, the returns are out of this world! On a daily basis, people write to Catholic Online School, praising the content and expressing joy at something new they discovered about their faith.
For those wishing to deepen their faith and understanding, Catholic Online School is the perfect resource.
