We ask you, urgently: don't scroll past this
Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Catholic Online School has released Confirmation with Certificate of Completion, and the course already has thousands of students enrolled, learning more about their faith and Confirmation.
The popularity of the course has some asking if they can make their confirmation online. The short answer is no.
Confirmation is a sacrament that is conferred by anointing and the laying of hands by a bishop or a designated representative. It must take place in person, almost always within the context of Holy Mass. In addition, many parishes have other requirements such as regular attendance at Mass, attendance at catechism, and volunteer work.
No online course can substitute for these critical practices. Any course would be in error if it discouraged or purported to substitute for activity within the parish community!
The purpose of Confirmation with Certificate of Completion is to serve as an educational supplement to catechists, much like a video or book would serve. The course is based on the Catechism, and has been edited for magisterial integrity by the renown Deacon Keith Fournier. (You can learn more about Deacon Fournier here.) The course is intended to aid, not replace catechism taught at your local parish.
In addition to serving as a teaching aid for catechists, Confirmation with Certificate of Completion is also useful as a refresher. Several previously confirmed Catholics have written to Catholic Online School to tell us how much they have learned from the course, even after many years of devout Catholic practice.
Catholic Online School is dedicated to providing a free world-class Catholic education to anyone, anywhere. The school does not charge tuition, and is supported entirely by donations. A donation is not required to sign up and take courses.
In addition to Confirmation with Certificate of Completion, the school offers a growing catalog of courses which includes Daily Readings with Questions for Reflection, courses on the saints, prayers, holy days and other aspects of the Church and our faith. Also in production are courses on ancient history and the United States Constitution. The school is working to expand into other areas including science, mathematics, and more.
All Catholics are encouraged to share the school with their parish priest, family, and friends. See for yourself what the school has to offer, and enjoy learning more about the wonderful treasure that is our Catholic faith!
