Hoy se celebra a la Virgen de Chiquinquira, patrona de Colombia

El 9 de julio se celebra la Fiesta de Nuestra Senora del Rosario de Chiquinquira, que fue proclamada por el Papa Pio VII, en 1829, como Patrona de Colombia otorgandole su propia fiesta liturgica. En 1919 fue coronada canonicamente luego que el Papa Pio X firmara el decreto.

REDACCION CENTRAL (ACI Prensa) - El Santuario de la Patrona de Colombia, declarado Basilica en 1927 por el Papa Pio XI, es visitado como cada ano por miles de fieles en especial durante esta fecha.
En este recinto se encuentra el lienzo con la imagen de Nuestra Senora custodiado por los dominicos. La imagen muestra a la Virgen Maria en su advocacion del Rosario y la acompana San Antonio de Padua y San Andrés el Apostol.
El lienzo pertenece al arte colonial colombiano mas antiguo y es una manta de algodon de mas de un metro, en un marco con placas del escudo nacional, las diocesis del pais y de los padres dominicos.
La palabra Chiquinquira significa lugar de nieblas y pantanos. Esta ciudad se ubica en el departamento de Boyaca en la region andina del pais a mas de dos mil metros de altura.
San Juan XXIII y San Juan Pablo II tuvieron una especial cercania a esta advocacion. San Juan XXIII, por ejemplo, con la intencion de pedir por la buena realizacion del Concilio Vaticano II, en 1960 ofrendo, por medio del Nuncio en el pais, un llamado "cirio de purificacion" para ser encendido frente a la imagen mariana.
En 1986, San Juan Pablo II visito la Basilica y consagro Colombia a la Virgen Maria, pidiendo que conceda "el don inestimable de la paz, la superacion de todos los odios y rencores, la reconciliacion de todos los hermanos".
"Que cese la violencia y la guerrilla. Que progrese y se consolide el dialogo y se inaugure una convivencia pacifica. Que se abran nuevos caminos de justicia y de prosperidad".
