El 22 de junio de 2014, durante el rezo del Angelus en la Plaza de San Pedro, el Pontifice se expreso con palabras parecidas y reitero su "firme condena a cada forma de tortura, e invito a los cristianos a comprometerse para cooperar en su abolicion y apoyar a las victimas y a sus familias".
