The Americas have been hit with an unprecedented string of disasters from fires, to hurricanes, to earthquakes. In response, millions of people have taken to their knees to pray. For most of us, this is all we can do in the face of despair.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - The past month has been exceptionally brutal on the Americas. Hurricane Harvey dropped flooding rains that inundated Houston and a wide swathe of Texas. Wildfires across the western U.S. made the air almost unbreatheable for weeks. Two more hurricanes have since struck in the Caribbean with Irma tracking up Flordia and into the American south. And in Mexico, massive earthquakes have claimed hundreds of lives.
While some have attributed these disasters to end times prophecies or conspiracies, the reality could just be coincidence. Regardless, it's irrelevant.
The fact is, we know not the hour or the day of our judgement. And while we wait for the return of Our Lord Jesus Christ, we know the greater chance is that we will pass away on our own from one cause or another. And because that passing could come by accident or misfortune, we do not know the hour when we will be called home.
Therefore, let us always be ready and live each day as though it were our last.
As we prepare ourselves, we should also take time to pray for the world, especially the poor, the sick, and the downtrodden. We should make special intentions for those affected by disaster.
Let us humbly petition God for an end to disasters, and for the safety and well-being of those around us.
Let us pray.
