LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Senator Ben Sasse spoke at Students for Life of America #SockIt2PP rally on April 26, where he acknowledged the presence of never-worn baby socks scattered across the grounds.
According to Newsbusters, he pointed to the mound of 196,543 brand new socks, which represented only half the babies aborted each year by Planned Parenthood.
He stated: "[W]e need to have images like this so that people start to reflect on the magnitude of this suffering that's happening out there."
He went on to explain he is a conservative Republicans, but there are more important things than the Republican or Democratic parties, in reference to DNC Chair Tom Perez's statement that "every candidate who runs as Democrat" and "every Democrat, like every American," should support abortion.
Sasse said: "One of the fundamental [goals] should be that America exists to fight for the most vulnerable. That should not be a Republican or Democratic proposition. That should be an American proposition. And that should be a human proposition."
Sasse is so passionate about saving the lives of the unborn that when Perez took to Twitter to say, "fight for the little guy," he sent Perez a tweet with a picture of an unborn child with the caption, "Please check out this little fella -- special, isn't he? (He's 12 weeks old)."
The response to Sasse's message was labeled "propaganda," leading the Nebraskan Senator to respond: "The picture I tweeted out is just science. It's a picture of an actual baby. It's a picture of what's actually happening inside a mom's womb. And that kind of picture needs to be the thing that we're about."
He added that the claims of "propaganda" seemed "strange since the picture I tweeted out is just science."
But not everyone sees it that way, thus the need for #SockIt2PP.
#SockIt2PP is a call to action to help defund Planned Parenthood by sending 323,999 baby socks to Congress.
They reached the halfway mark and, true to their word, sent the socks.
Nearly 200,000 socks were piled onto the U.S. Capitol's lawn.
Kristan Hawkins, the president of Students for Life, told The Blaze the visualization of the socks gets "people to talk about this issue" and reminds Congress "we elected you to do a job. We elected you to defund Planned Parenthood, and we want it done now."
Even as the team unloaded socks from the truck, lives were changed.
Hawkins stated: "I was changing kids' minds on the street. People were just walking by, and I would say, 'Every sock represents one baby Planned Parenthood aborts,' and people's mouths were dropping....One kid came back and said, 'Can you say that again?'
"So it's a huge reminder that these are babies, and that's not even all of them."
According to Planned Parenthood's annual reports, they murder over 300,000 babies every year.
The astronomic number led Senator Sasse to speak at the event.
"It's a devastatingly large number," Sasse stated as he looked at the mountain of socks.
"We need to have images like this so people start to reflect on the magnitude of the suffering that's happening out there."
He added that the pro-life movement "is about celebrating human dignity and talking about the gift of life. What we're about is about love."
Many people shared their stories of how Planned Parenthood convinces young women that a child would keep them from accomplishing their dreams, reaching goals and living their own lives. The organization preys on a woman's weakness and implies children are nothing but a problem - but Sue Thayer, a former Planned Parenthood manager, said, "there should be little feet in all of these socks."
Now that their message has been shared, Students for Life will be collecting the socks to put on display at upcoming protests then will donate them to crisis pregnancy centers in the U.S.
