LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to Vatican Radio, a note from the liturgical office revealed Pope Francis' Palm Sunday plans.
On Palm Sunday, April 9th, Pope Francis is set to lead a procession for the blessing of the olive and palm branches in St. Peter's Square, beginning at 10 a.m.
The pontiff will then celebrate the Mass of Our Lord's Passion.
Palm Sunday happens to also mark the XXXII World Youth Day, which is celebrating with the theme "The Mighty One has done great things for me," taken from St. Luke's Gospel.
Four days later, on April 13th, Pope Francis will preside at the Chrism Mass with the blessing of the holy oils in St. Peter's Basilica, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The following day is Good Friday, where the Holy Father will lead the celebration of Our Lord's Passion in St. Peter's Basilica, beginning at 5 p.m.
Pope Francis has a busy schedule for Holy Week.
At 9:15 p.m., immediately after the celebration of Our Lord's Passion, there will be the Via Crucis, or Way of the Cross, also known as Way of Sorrows, in which a series of images depicting Christ's passion will be revealed with accompanying prayers.
The Via Crucis will take place at the Colosseum, then Pope Francis will greet those present and impart his Apostolic Blessing.
On Saturday, April 15th, the pontiff will celebrate the Easter Vigil in St. Peter's Basilica at 8:30 p.m. and will include a blessing of the new fire, which will be followed by a procession with the Pasqual candle.
During this celebration, Pope Francis will administer the Sacrament of Baptism before concelebrating Mass with cardinals and bishops.
On Sunday, April 16, Easter morning, Pope Francis will preside at the Mass of Our Lord's Resurrection in St. Peter's Square at 10 a.m.
He will then deliver his Urbi et Orbi blessing [to the city of Rome and the world] from the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica.
