LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The first and most important thing to remember is that we are not separated by gender, views or political parties; we are united as brothers and sisters in Christ.
United, Catholics have made history, including determining the presidency this year.
It was by working together that Catholics made an impact in the United States but now that Election Day has come and gone, it is time to rebuild broken relationships and realize we stand together beneath the banner of our Lord and Savior.
Take a moment to consider the following five reflections today. Share them with loved ones and encourage one another to set aside differences in favor of embracing love and respect:
1. Regardless of Man's Works, God Remains the Most Powerful
Psalm 147:4-5 reads, "He counts out the number of the stars, and gives each one of them a name. Our Lord is great, all-powerful, his wisdom beyond all telling."
Like with every president the United States has ever had, there will be changes - some for the better and some for the worse.
The best thing to remember is that God is more powerful than anything Donald Trump, the military, Russia or any politician can ever hope to be.
Trust in God's power and when things begin going in a direction you know is wrong, pray for divine intervention.
2. Prayer Works
Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us: "Never worry about anything; but tell God all your desires of every kind in prayer and petition shot through with gratitude, and the peace of God which is beyond our understanding will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."
God wants us to have peace. One of the many ways we can achieve it is through prayer.
While rebuilding broken relationships or talking to someone who is upset about the election, say a few silent prayers and call for peace to fall in your location.
God will answer - just have faith!
3. Faith is Rewarded
Speaking of faith, remember Matthew 21:22, which states, "And if you have faith, everything you ask for in prayer, you will receive."
Faith is the foundation of Catholicism. Without it, we have nothing.
With tensions rising and riots breaking out in the wake of Trump's election, our faith needs to become more powerful than ever. Remember, as the world crumbles around us we must turn our eyes to Christ and in Him we shall find salvation.
4. We Have Power
Faith in the Lord is the backbone of Catholicism but did you know we need faith in ourselves as well?
2 Timothy 1:7 tells us, "God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power and love and self-control."
We can change the world around us without becoming the President or entering political office.
Each and every one of us has multiple opportunities to positively influence people and situations around us every single day.
We can mentor today's youth, help feed the hungry, share the Gospel of Christ, offer prayers for the broken, donate to charities and more.
The Lord gave us power. What good is that gift if we never use it?
5. Our Job is to Promote the Love of Christ
Our primary responsibility is sharing the Gospel to anyone willing to listen - So when was the last time you shared the Word?
Regardless of what is happening around us, we must remember to take a few minutes to share Christ's sacrifice for our sake. Share miracles that happen in our lives, how God changed everything and how the world can find peace in Him.
If our politicians refuse to acknowledge Him, then we must take a stand to be the voice of reason, faith, and salvation.
It is irresponsible to rely solely on politicians to follow the Church's teachings - we must also lead by example to promote morality and life.
Be the change and show the world what good Catholic influences can bring the nation.
