'Deepest feelings of horror': Pope Francis comments on Florida massacre

Vatican speaks against hatred.

Following the deadliest attack on U.S. soil since 9/11, Pope Francis and the Vatican have released statements denouncing the shooter's actions and the hatred behind them.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Vatican Radio reported a "shaken" and "saddened" Pope Francis has commented on the "homicidal folly and senseless hatred" at the Pulse Nightclub early Sunday morning.

Father Federico Lombardi SJ, the Holy See Press Office Director, released a statement on the massacre that resulted in the deaths of fifty innocent people and injured 53 more.

"The terrible massacre that has taken place in Orlando, with its dreadfully high number of innocent victims, has caused in Pope Francis, and in all of us, the deepest feelings of horror and condemnation, of pain and turmoil before this new manifestation of homicidal folly and senseless hatred. Pope Francis joins the families of the victims and all of the injured in prayer and in compassion.

"Sharing in their indescribable suffering he entrusts them to the Lord so they may find comfort. We all hope that ways may be found, as soon as possible, to effectively identify and contrast the causes of such terrible and absurd violence which so deeply upsets the desire for peace of the American people and of the whole of humanity."

Hatred is what led the 29-year-old shooter to act and to ally himself with the terrorist group ISIS.

It is not hatred Allah teaches in the Muslim religion and several Muslims, including the man's own family, have spoke against the senseless killings.

According to USA Today, Muslims across America have been showing support for the victims of the attack, particularly the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which released the following statement:

"We condemn this monstrous attack and offer our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of all those killed or injured. The Muslim community joins our fellow Americans in repudiating anyone or any group that would claim to justify or excuse such an appalling act of violence."
