During his Easter Monday Regina Coeli, the pope asks for prayers

Following his Easter Monday Regina Coeli, Pope Francis called for a moment of silence for those killed and injured in the Easter Sunday terrorist attack in Pakistan.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Describing the Lahore, Pakistan attack that "bloodied" Easter as "reprehensible," Francis spoke out to his pilgrims in St. Peter's Square to ask for prayers for the victims and their families. According to reports, more than 70 people, mostly Christians, were murdered during the Sunday suicide bombing, including children and women.

"I repeat, once again, that violence and murderous hatred lead only to pain and destruction; respect and fraternity are the only way to achieve peace," the Holy Father expressed. "The Passover of the Lord inspires in us, in an even more powerful way, prayers to God so that he stops the hands of the violent, who spread terror and death; and makes it possible for love, justice and reconciliation to reign in the world."

"I appeal to the civil authorities and to all the social components of [Pakistan] to do everything possible to restore security and peace to the population and, in particular, to the most vulnerable religious minorities," he continued. "Let us all pray for the dead in this attack, for family members, for the Christian and ethnic minorities of that Nation: Hail Mary."
