LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - "There's nothing else like it anywhere in the world," Ham said of the Ark Encounter, which features a life-size replica of Noah's ark and contains 132 Bible-themed "state-of-the-art" exhibits.
Ham's ark stands at 51-feet-tall, 510-feet-long and 85-feet-wide. The enormous ark, which is the equivalent of 1.5 football fields, sits against three 8-story buildings and rests on an 800-acre plot of land falling between Cincinnati, Ohio, and Lexington, Kentucky.
Ham told The Blaze: "As Christians, we believe that we have an obligation to what God's word tells us to do, and that is to do business until he comes, to go out and preach the gospel and to stand up on the truth of God's word."We also see, in this culture, an increasing anti-Christian element ... we see the loss of Christian freedom in some areas and the restriction of the free exercise of religion."
Ham spoke to The Church Boys about the theme park, which he hopes will teach the public about the Bible and God's truth.
Ham paraphrased comments from people who have had a chance to view the enormous ark: "Wow, we never knew Noah's ark was so big," one person said, with Ham replying, "Just standing outside and looking at the ark is an exhibit itself."Within the ark, Ham explained several exhibits featuring Noah and his family will be present, along with information to help the public understand why they should trust the Christian Bible.
"We want to challenge people that Noah wasn't some primitive brute. He was very intelligent," Ham described. "One of the big questions is how could he fit all the animals on board?"
The Ark Encounter attempts to answer that popular question by featuring sculptures, interactive cages and possible methods of how Noah was able to feed and care for the animals on board.
Once the Ark Encounter is fully operational, Ham plans to expand the park to add a petting zoo, theater, Tower of Babel replica and other Bible-themed features.
