LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The Catholic Herald reported Pope Francis would deliver his monthly prayer intentions over social media as part of a Jesuit-run global prayer network.

As Vatican Radio stated, the videos will be posted in ten languages to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The Vatican Television Centre will help with the release of each prayer video.

Other prayer intentions for 2016 include:

  • Greater care for creation
  • More support for families in difficulty
  • Just compensation for small farmers
  • Greater respect for women and indigenous peoples
  • Helping sports contribute to peace
  • Encouraging journalists to respect truth and be more ethical
  • Greater support for countries that take in refugees
  • An end to the use of child soldiers

The monthly prayer, which was established in 1844 by Jesuit seminarians in France, will begin with January's prayer intention: "That sincere dialogue among men and women of different faiths may produce the fruits of peace and justice."

Jesuit Father Frederic Fornos told Vatican Radio that people are often led to feel helpless following an onslaught of bad news, but "to pray together with Pope Francis for these challenges will help us a lot."
