We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

Some attend simply to get into the Christmas spirit, while others attend to honor Jesus

One study indicates more people are willing to attend church at Christmastime if they are invited by a friend or family member.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to LifeWay Research, in a poll of 1,000 Americans, 6/10 Americans attend church in December.

In a surprising twist, of those who said they don't attend, 57 percent admitted they would probably go if someone they knew offered an invitation.

Scott McConnell, LifeWay Research's vice president, said, "Regular churchgoers may assume the rest of America has already made up their mind not to attend church. In reality, many would welcome going to a Christmas service with someone they know."

Of those who attend church once a week or more throughout the year, 91 percent said they plan to attend this Christmastime.

During the study, participants were asked, "For you personally, which of the following is the primary reason you attend church at Christmastime?"

Seventy-seven percent answered, "to honor Jesus."

Surprisingly, among the 29 percent of nonreligious church attendants, forty-seven admitted they attended services to honor Jesus.

Other reasons Americans chose to attend during the Christmas month was to be with family and friends, to observe tradition or to get into the Christmas spirit.

McConnell said, "Those invited to a church service at Christmastime, may not attend for the same reasons as those who already plan to go. But the majority are open to going."
